Harriet/Hattie Newberry is listed in the following 1870 and 1900 censuses. In 1870, it lists her daughter Maria, Joe, and Josephine. Joe and Joesphine were listed in the 1880 census along with the rest of Hattie's children. In the 1900 census, Maria and her children are living with Hattie. Interesting note. Hattie's estimated birth year and birth place are different on every census record. Since Hattie was born during slavery, it may have been difficult for her know when and where she was born, but I believe it was around 1840 in Alabama.

1880 Census Flack Family
1920 Census Smith Family
In this census, it lists Flora Smith (Elmer's mother). It shows Flora was 18 at the time this census was taken. Flora's parents were Edward and Charity. Edward was a coal loader for the railroad. In the 1900 census and beyond, it shows Edward owning his home. Wow! Living in Spartanburg, SC and owning a home in 1900. Wow!

1880 Census Newberry Family
Jenusetta Newbery (George Macon's wife) was listed in the 1880 census (Lee County, MS). This isn't a very good copy of the census, but you can see her entry at the bottom of the page. She was 5 at the time of census was taken. She was listed as being mulatto. Hattie has a set of twins listed on this 1800 census. One of these twins is my 2nd great grandmother (Junie Macon). Junie's twin sister's name is Retta. For whatever reason, the census taker wrote Jenusetta twice. You can barely see the listing. The daughter Gertrude is listed on the next page (not shown).
